109 Million SIM Cards Registered – NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said that about 109 million SIM cards have so far been registered in the country.

Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Dr. Eugene Juwah, said this  while receiving the House Committee on Communications in his office.

He said there is due process in the SIM registration exercise as payment was made according to the number of registered SIMs by the contractors.

Juwah told the legislators that “people felt we just distributed the money. There is accounting, there is due process in it and I can say we have registered 109 million subscribers.”

In his remark, Chairman, House Committee on Communication, Oyetunde Ojo told the commission that there was a lot of work to do, stressing that the telecommunications sector is critical to the economy. “It is the most important sector after petroleum,” he said.
